An asset’s lifecycle state describes its stage of service. Open Asset Management → Assets, select an asset, and choose Change Status to see the next states available from its current state.

Make an active asset inactive

Use Decommissioned when an active asset is leaving service.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ It makes the asset inactive and sets its operational status to Retired. You can select Active later to reactivate it.
1

Open the status dialog

Open the asset’s detail page and select Change Status.
2

Select Decommissioned

Select Decommissioned and enter a reason, such as leaving service.
3

Confirm the change

Select Confirm Status Change. The new state and reason are recorded in the asset’s history.

Return an asset to the lessor

First change Active → Decommissioned. Then select Change Status again, select Returned to Lessor, enter a reason, and confirm.
Disposed and Returned to Lessor are final lifecycle states. You cannot change them through the status dialog. Use Decommissioned if the asset may return to service.
Changing lifecycle status records the asset’s service state. It does not remove a source fleet assignment, transfer ownership, or end a lease assignment. Manage those records separately.

Allowed transitions

The dialog shows only the next states allowed from the current state.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ Follow each step separately; you cannot skip an intermediate state.

Lifecycle and operational status

A lifecycle change also sets the operational status shown on the asset. Stored sets the operational status to Stored and allows a return to Active.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ Decommissioned marks the asset as retired while retaining the option to reactivate it.
Asset lifecycle is separate from whether a car is online or offline in Inventory. Moving an inventory car offline is a different workflow; see Inventory.

Inventory

Track cars and manage online or offline inventory.
